The legal foundations of international cooperation between states in the field of countering extremist crimes and the spread of extremist ideology are considered. The main international legal acts adopted at the level of a number of the most significant international organizations aimed at combating extremism and its manifestations, as well as preventing the emergence of extremist ideology, are analyzed. The author's position on the possibility of implementing some international legal norms related to countering extremist crimes into Russian criminal legislation is presented. The definitions of the main terms that form the basis for countering extremism formulated in international documents and the expediency of their use in domestic criminal legislation are analyzed. A comparative legal analysis of international documents aimed at combating extremism adopted at the levels of various international organizations has been conducted.
