A study is being conducted on the organization and appointment of certain types of forensic examinations in the framework of proceedings on cases (materials) on illegal actions committed in relation to firearms, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices. Based on the analysis of judicial and investigative practice, the following problematic aspects have been identified: the lack of clear criminal procedural regulation of the legal status of individual participants in the appointment and conduct of forensic examinations, as well as in the selection of samples for comparative research; violation of the sequence of certain expert studies; insufficient use of the search and cognitive potential of a forensic expert. Legal and practical recommendations aimed at improving the effectiveness of the investigation of this category of crimes are proposed.
