The analysis and interpretation of key terms related to information technology, digital document management and transportation is presented. The basic concepts that underlie the digital transformation in the field of freight transportation are detailed. Their own interpretation of the term «Cargo transportation contract» has been put forward. Special attention is paid to the differences in the legal nature of contractual relations between shippers and carriers, as well as the essential conditions of such relations. The procedures and primary documentation necessary to prove the legality of cargo transportation are described. A comparison is made between traditional paper and modern digital document management. New terms have been defined that have become part of digital document management. The types of documentation providing the legal basis for transportation are described. The relationship between the development of information technology and the process of digital transformation in the field of freight transportation is substantiated, including the identification of key documents marking the beginning and completion of transportation services. The legal norms governing cargo transportation and the established forms of digital document management are considered, as well as the flow pattern of digital documents is detailed, which allows the reader to trace the entire chain from the beginning to the end of the transportation process.
