The article explores the classic issues of protecting the civil rights of the owner of a digital object. The author seeks to reveal the theoretical and legal foundations of protecting the rights of the owner of a digital object through the prism of established principles and methods of protecting civil rights, without detracting from the specific characteristics of the digital environment as a place of legal relations. The subject of the study is the norms of civil law governing relations arising in connection with the protection of the civil rights of owners of digital objects; as well as the views of civil scientists on the place of the subjective right to civil rights protection in the system of elements of subjective civil law. The object of the study is social relations arising in connection with the violation and protection of the subjective civil rights of the owner of a digital object. The research methodology is based on the method of scientific extrapolation, which made it possible to extend the traditional civil foundations of the protection of violated rights to relations arising in the digital environment. As a result, the author comes to the conclusion that general civil provisions constitute the fundamental foundations for protecting the rights of the owner of a digital object, but require compliance with the specifics of the digital environment.
