The article examines theoretical approaches to understanding the psychological readiness of internal affairs officers to perform operational duties under special conditions. The content of the concept of psychological readiness is specified with regard to professional activity in situations of increased risk, time pressure and high uncertainty. The main components of psychological readiness (motivational, cognitive, emotional-volitional, regulatory, value–semantic) are identified and briefly characterised with reference to contemporary trends in general, extreme and legal psychology. The specificity of the manifestation of psychological readiness in the operational activity of internal affairs bodies is demonstrated. The role of psychological readiness as an important element of the system of psychological support and psychological safety of officers, ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of professional actions under special conditions, is substantiated.
