In the article, based on the analysis of legal literature and legislation regarding the relationship of the terms «basic law» and «constitution» in the Russian Federation, several judgments are made: in the Russian Federation, the results of scientific research on the system of normative legal acts must be recognized as imperfect; the legislation of the Russian Federation has not adopted a single normative legal act on the system of normative legal acts; the Constitution of the Russian Federation of December 12, 1993 is a normative legal act with the highest legal force; the use of the term «basic law» for the name of the Constitution of the Russian Federation of December 12, 1993. December 1993 contradicts the rules of formal logic.
