Consider issues related to the concept and essence of house arrest, as well as the prospects for its application in criminal proceedings in Russia. It has been established that house arrest as a preventive measure, according to Part 1 of Article 107 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, is chosen by a court decision in relation to a suspect or accused when it is impossible to apply another, more lenient preventive measure. From the standpoint of criminal-legal theory and law enforcement practice, the authors have established that house arrest implies complete isolation, which corresponds to its essence, since it provides not only for the permanent presence of the suspect or accused in the residential premises, but also the execution of prohibitions restricting his or her right to communicate with any persons, send and receive postal and telegraph messages, use communication facilities and the Internet information and telecommunications network. In conclusion, a reasoned conclusion is made.
