The process of information technology development has determined the transition of a number of social processes into the field of digital interaction. Against this background, there has been an unfavorable growth trend in the number of information technology scams. Special attention should be paid to the fact that elderly people most often act as victims of criminal encroachment. The analysis of the factors determining the intensification of the frequency of fraudulent actions against the elderly carried out with the help of information technology is carried out. The article considers the specifics of the elderly as a social group and identifies their qualities that determine their increased vulnerability to fraudsters. The question is raised about the correlation of socio-psychological, institutional and cultural factors of victimization of the elderly.
