The level of security is analyzed and the sustainability of the functioning of the production sector of the penitentiary system of Russia under the influence of internal and external threats is assessed. Based on the comparison of indicators of economic security of the Russian Federation and the penitentiary department, the system of indicators of economic security of the production sector of the penal and correctional system is optimized, the methodology for calculating the complex labor indicator is proposed and its evaluation is carried out in the context of correctional institutions of the Vladimir region. As a result of the study, the principles of ensuring economic security of the production complex of the penal and correctional system in modern conditions were formulated.
