The article examines the problems faced by local government bodies and officials in carrying out human rights activities on the territory of a municipality. Of these, the most characteristic are: the imperfection of constitutional legislation in terms of provisions concerning the organization of local self-government; the need to review and strengthen the mechanism for providing free qualified legal assistance to citizens; the insufficient level of legal culture among many subjects of municipal legal relations. The directions of elimination of these problems are outlined. Their implementation will make it possible to improve the activities of municipal authorities to ensure and protect the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens in the territory of the municipality.
