This article positions the thesis that Russia and the EU as a whole support the need to combat climate change and protect the environment. At the same time, the peculiarities of cooperation between Russia and the European Union within the framework of the international climate regime are briefly characterized. Special attention is paid to the «Green Deal» of the European Union, as a document containing the EU’s plans to achieve climate neutrality, in case of implementation of which by the EU with the introduction of a cross-border carbon tax, Russia faces large economic losses. In this regard, the conditions for the reorientation of Russian economic and political relations to the Asian market are considered.
