The article is devoted to the justification of disciplinary law as a complex branch of Russian law, the study of its legal nature and content. The author states that, like any branch of the legal system, disciplinary law has its own functions and principles. The social purpose of disciplinary law includes its economic, political, educational, preventive, regulatory, protective and compensatory functions. In turn, the general legal principles of disciplinary law, that is, the fundamental principles and guiding ideas of a directive nature, are legality; respect for the rights and freedoms of participants in disciplinary relations; justice; legal equality of participants in disciplinary relations before the law; humanism; responsibility for guilt. The author highlights the freedom to choose the type of disciplinary action (uncertainty of punishment) as special principles of disciplinary law; special procedure for disciplinary proceedings; freedom to establish internal rules and elements of discipline.
