The issues related to the investigator’s submission of ideas about measures to eliminate the circumstances that contributed to the commission of the crime are being considered. The theoretical aspects of this type of activity of the investigator are studied, and examples from specific criminal cases are given, indicating the importance of preventive work during the preliminary investigation. It has been proven that, according to more than 80 % of the submissions made by investigators, the measures taken by the heads of organizations, institutions and enterprises to eliminate the circumstances that contributed to the commission of crimes were of a real preventive nature. The author provides points of view regarding the issues under consideration and substantiates his position. In conclusion, a reasoned conclusion is drawn.
