Legal awareness is one of the most important factors in ensuring legal order. This determines the importance of studying both the quantitative characteristics of legal awareness, expressed in the number of members of society with developed legal awareness, and the qualitative characteristics of legal awareness related to the way of understanding law and the nature of attitudes towards it. The article is devoted to the study of the importance of natural law and positive legal theories as an element of legal culture and a factor in the formation of legal awareness. The influence of natural law and positive legal attitudes on the formation of legal awareness and subsequent practice of law enforcement is investigated. In the context of the peculiarities of the Russian mentality, the cultural prerequisites for the formation of legal awareness in Russian society are investigated.
