A comprehensive analysis of the witness's safety as an independent object of criminal law protection is carried out in a comparative legal manner based on the legislation of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The author identifies common features and national peculiarities of criminal law and procedural mechanisms aimed at protecting witnesses. The scientific novelty lies in the establishment of stable legal continuity in the regulation of these relations among the successor states of the USSR, due to the common Soviet legal doctrine. It is concluded that there is a need for further harmonization of legislation in order to effectively counter crimes against justice and ensure the unhindered administration of justice.
