The article is devoted to the current problems of teaching Russian as a foreign language to law en-forcement officers from the CIS countries in departmental universities of the Ministry of Internal Af-fairs of Russia. The author analyzes the characteristics of the student body, noting the heterogeneity of their language training, a tendency to overestimate self-esteem and difficulties in mastering profes-sional vocabulary. The paper substantiates the need for the use of group forms of training and profes-sionally oriented methods, including diagnostics, modeling of service situations and step-by-step complication of tasks. Special attention is paid to correcting students' self-esteem through practice-oriented cases. The article is valuable for RCT teachers working in departmental educational institu-tions
