The material presented in the article is a theoretical and practical aspect of the use of an air rifle in the training of biathlon cadets. The article analyzes the research and generalization of the experience of practical work of Russian and foreign specialists of shooting sports and biathlon, showing the advantage of shooting from an air rifle as an auxiliary means of mass training of athletes, which has a positive and direct impact on sports improvement. The article recommends (on the basis of the conducted research) the means used in the step-by-step selection for specialization in biathlon, carried out with the use of pneumatic weapons. From the conducted research, the authors conclude that the main types of sports disciplines in the selection are cross-country skiing, cross-country, shooting (without physical exertion) and directly biathlon competitions (at the final stage).
