The problematic issues related to the formation of professional competencies among employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate are considered in the absence of a professionally significant component in professional education (vocational training) programs - knowledge of traffic rules. The absence of a separate discipline in the study of Traffic Rules and related regulatory legal acts in the implemented basic professional education (professional training) programs for the profession of «Policeman» creates difficulties in the implementation of classes for which this knowledge was the foundation. The legislation regulating public relations in the field of road safety is characterized by specific terminology, great complexity of understanding and interrelationships of various sources, the knowledge of which determines the quality of the tasks assigned to the departments of the State Traffic Inspectorate. Based on a critical analysis of the current situation, the necessity of developing a separate professional training program (professional training) in the profession of «Policeman» for employees of State Traffic Police departments is substantiated.
